Daily journaling reminders are back on — a reliability issue was keeping them from actually sending.

Fixes

• Daily reminders now actually arrive. Turning on a daily reminder in Settings → Notifications looked like it worked, but no reminder was being delivered — the delivery mechanism behind the scenes had a reliability problem and was turned off while it was being fixed. It's now rebuilt on a more dependable delivery path and reminders are sending again.

In Short

A new Memories page shows you patterns in your own diary — your moods, when you write, your streaks, and how much you've written — worked out from entries you've already written, nothing new to fill in.

What Users Can Now Do

• See your Memories from the new Memories link in the sidebar: your most-picked moods, whether you tend to write in the morning, afternoon, evening, or at night, which day of the week you write most, your current and longest streaks and your busiest month, and a chart of how many words you've written each of the last 12 months.
• Hover the small info icon on any Memories card for a plain-language explanation of what it shows.

Notes

• Memories is an early-access feature — the "Memories" link in the sidebar shows a "New" tag for about a month, and it's rolling out to accounts gradually rather than all at once.

Daylight can now remind you to write — pick a time, and you'll get a nudge if you haven't journaled yet that day.

What Users Can Now Do

• Turn on a daily reminder from Settings → Reminders. Pick a time (in 30-minute steps), and Daylight uses your device's own timezone automatically — nothing to set, and it keeps itself correct if you travel.
• Skip the reminder on days you've already written — on by default, so you're never reminded about something you've already done.
• Choose what the reminder says — a few short preset lines, a random pick each time ("Let Daylight choose"), or write your own message.
• See a warning if push notifications aren't on — reminders arrive as a push notification for now, so the settings page tells you if that's off and lets you turn it on right there, without blocking you from setting up the reminder itself.

In Short

You can now group related diary entries into named notebooks — a person, a place, a trip, a project — and read each group on its own, without the rest of your diary in the way.

What Users Can Now Do

• Create a notebook from the new Notebooks page in the sidebar. Give it a name, and optionally a short note about what it's for. Both are private to you and encrypted the same way your entries are. You can keep up to 10 notebooks.
• Put an entry in a notebook two ways: open the entry and use the Notebook button under Edit and Share, or use the small notebook tag on the entry's card on your dashboard. You can pick a notebook, start a new one on the spot, or take the entry back out — all after writing, with nothing extra to choose while you write.
• Open a notebook to see only its entries, with the same search and date filters as your main list.
• Rename a notebook or change its note any time from its card.
• Delete a notebook with a choice about its entries: keep them (they just come out of the notebook and stay in your diary) or delete them too. Every delete asks you to confirm first.
• See how many notebooks you have on the Your stats page in Settings.

Notes

• A notebook name must be different from your other notebook names.
• The "Notebooks" link in the sidebar shows a "New" tag for about a month — it goes away once you open the page, or on its own after that.
• A text export now lists which notebook each entry is in. Importing a text file doesn't restore notebook membership yet — re-imported entries come in unfiled.

In Short

Fixed the dashboard sidebar's close button being pushed outside the sidebar after the light/dark theme button was added in v2.20.0.

Fixes

• The theme (sun/moon) button was crowding the top of the dashboard sidebar, pushing the close-sidebar button off its edge. The theme button now sits in the bottom row next to your name, and on mobile it's next to the menu button at the top — the close button is back where it belongs.

In Short

Daylight now lets you pick a light theme, a dark theme, or "System" (follow your device's setting) — before, dark mode only ever turned on automatically with your device.

What Users Can Now Do

• Choose how Daylight looks on the new Appearance page in Settings: System, Light, or Dark. The choice applies everywhere straight away and is remembered on that browser.
• Switch light/dark from a button in the header — a small sun/moon icon on the main site, on the "write without an account" page, and in the menu when you're signed in. It flips between light and dark; "System" stays on the Settings page.
• Keep following your device automatically if you leave it on "System" — if your phone or computer switches between light and dark (for example on a schedule), Daylight switches with it, live.

Notes

• Your theme choice is saved per browser, so it won't carry over to a different device or browser yet.
• The "Appearance" link in Settings shows a "New" tag for a little while — it goes away once you've opened the page, or on its own after a few weeks.

In Short

You can now start journaling on Daylight without creating an account. Entries you write this way are saved on your device as you type, and you can bring them into a real account whenever you register or log in. The Privacy Policy and Terms have been updated to describe how this works.

What Users Can Now Do

• Write diary entries without registering. A new writing page lets you journal straight away — no account, no email. What you write is saved on your device as you type (there's no Save button), and nothing is sent to Daylight until you choose to bring it into an account.
• Manage those entries on the device — see everything you've written so far (newest first), open any entry to read it in full, edit it, or delete it.
• Use writing prompts without an account — the "Discover prompts" ideas are available on the no-account page too.
• Bring your device's entries into your account when you register or log in from that device. Daylight asks first and tells you how many entries it found; you can decline and be asked again next time. Anything that can't be imported stays on the device rather than being lost.
• Get back to the home page from the writing page with a clear "Back to home" link, not just the logo.

Improvements

• On the no-account writing page, a "New entry" button now follows you as you scroll down through your saved entries, so you don't have to return to the top to start writing again. Tapping "Edit" on an entry also scrolls the form back into view.
• The logged-out site header keeps its full menu visible across more screen widths.

Fixes

• Fixed the delete-confirmation pop-up stretching edge-to-edge on narrow phone screens — it now keeps a margin on each side.

Notes

• The Privacy Policy and Terms of Service have been updated to version 2.2 to cover journaling without an account: what stays on your device, what reaches Daylight's servers and when, that these entries aren't encrypted at rest because they never leave your device, and the anonymous usage counts described above. The previous versions remain available to read at /privacy/v2.1 and /terms/v2.1.
• Entries written without an account live only in the browser on that one device. Clearing your browsing data, using a private window, or switching devices loses them — registering and importing is the only way to keep them safe.
• There's an on-device limit of 30 entries before registering.

You can now unsubscribe from just one kind of marketing email instead of all of them, and new accounts get a one-time welcome email.

In Short

Your diary now looks after your writing across devices: edits made from two places merge on their own instead of clashing, every entry keeps a short version history you can restore from, and a new Drafts page recovers work that only ever lived on one device. There's also a new help article explaining what Daylight is, and a monthly "welcome to the new month" email.

What Users Can Now Do

• Open a Drafts page from the dashboard to find and pick up diary work that's only saved on the device you're using — a new entry you started and navigated away from, or edits you made offline that haven't synced yet. Each draft shows a preview and when it was last touched, with Open and Delete.
• Keep writing the same entry from two tabs or two devices without being stopped — when changes overlap, Daylight now combines them automatically and shows a small "changes were merged" notice instead of a pop-up you have to deal with mid-sentence.
• Restore an earlier version of an entry. When a previous version exists, a "view version history" option appears on the entry; opening it lets you look at and roll back to an earlier version.
• Read a new "What is Daylight?" article in Help — a plain-language explanation of what Daylight is, how the writing assistant helps (and where it doesn't), what an entry is, and how your privacy works. It's readable without an account.
• Get a "welcome to the new month" email at the start of each month — a short nudge to write, with nothing to act on.

Improvements

• The entry screen uses plain wording for versions and merged changes now, instead of technical terms.
• Restoring an older version also backs up the version you're replacing for a day, so an accidental restore can be undone.
• Saved versions are encrypted with your account key, the same as your entries.
• The "What is Daylight?" and "Getting started" help articles are written in short, everyday language.

Fixes

• Fixed autosave getting stuck or quietly failing after a dropped connection or a timing clash between devices — it now recovers and keeps your most recent text.
• Fixed the writing-prompt panel spinning forever when its list of prompts failed to load.
• Fixed an entry sometimes staying on a device after it had been deleted somewhere else.
• Fixed leftover state after discarding a draft.

Notes

• An entry's version history is kept for 24 hours and then cleared automatically.
• The monthly email and the weekly update share one unsubscribe — opting out of one opts you out of both.

In Short

A handful of small fixes: signing in from a link now takes you to the page you were actually headed to, and a couple of display glitches on the Tours page are cleaned up.

• Fixed signing in from a link that requires an account (for example, from an email) sending you to the plain dashboard afterward instead of the page you were actually trying to reach.

Improvements

• The Tours page separates tours you haven't tried yet from ones you've completed or skipped, so what's new is always easy to spot.
• Clicking outside a tour's window closes it, the same as pressing Escape.
• The entry background picker is more compact — only the first two options show as buttons, with the rest tucked behind a "More" dropdown instead of a scrolling row.
• The "press Tab to jump to the next field" hint on the entry form now appears above the writing area instead of below it, so it's visible before you start typing rather than after.
• Sending feedback from a long checklist is easier — the send button now stays visible on screen instead of requiring a scroll to the bottom.

Fixes

• Fixed a tour's outcome sometimes being recorded before you ever saw it — an existing account could have its first-entry tour marked "Skipped" without it ever being shown; it's now correctly labeled "Not needed".
• Fixed the Tours page not updating right away after you complete or skip a tour.
• Fixed a tour's window occasionally closing when clicking near its edge instead of only on the actual background behind it.
• Fixed the tour window's mobile layout, its Skip button's appearance, and where keyboard focus lands when a tour opens.
• Fixed the spacing between a Tours section heading and the list underneath it being too tight on iPhone.
• Fixed the Tours link in the sidebar missing its icon.
• Fixed tour cards not showing a pointer cursor on hover.
• Fixed the dashboard writing prompt occasionally failing to update after loading slowly or after liking a prompt.

Notes

• The time field is optional and only applies going forward — existing entries won't have a time filled in automatically.
• Retaking a tour always starts over from the first step, even if you left it partway through before.

Streaks now update reliably even right around midnight.

Fixes

• Fixed streaks sometimes not increasing after writing an entry — most noticeable writing right around midnight, or after leaving the app open in the background for a while.
• Fixed session "last active" times and entry edit-history timestamps occasionally flashing the wrong timezone right after a page loaded.

• If your streak was thrown off by the bug above before this fix, it may need a one-time correction from an admin — reach out to support if your streak still looks wrong after this update.

Daylight now tracks how many days in a row you've written an entry, and sends out a weekly update email recapping what's new.

What Users Can Now Do

• See a running streak count in the dashboard header, counting the consecutive days you've written at least one entry, with your longest streak shown alongside it once you fall behind your best.
• Turn streak tracking on or off from Settings → Profile — turning it off keeps your count but stops tracking and hides the badge, so you're asked to confirm first; turning it back on restarts from zero.
• See "Current streak" and "Longest streak" (and, once you've turned it on, since when) in Settings → Your stats.
• Read a new Help Center guide, "Writing Streaks," on how streaks are counted.

• Backdating or future-dating an entry never affects your streak — only an entry written for today counts, so the streak reflects when you actually wrote, not the date on the entry.

Daylight can now notify you even when it isn't open in a tab — turn on push notifications and get alerted right on your device.

• People who sign up through a private preview invite skip the verification step entirely, since clicking the invite already confirmed their email.

• Verification codes and links expire after 15 minutes and can only be used once.
• Verification emails are capped at 5 per day per account, with a short wait required between requests, to prevent abuse.

• The countdown is purely informational — it's just a clock, not a switch. Launch itself still happens on its own schedule behind the scenes, so the countdown reaching zero and the site actually going live may not be the exact same instant.
• This only appears on the public coming-soon page and doesn't change anything for anyone already on the waitlist or using the private preview.

• Import fully understands files exported from Daylight itself and from the "Write Diary" app today; support for other diary apps is being added, and a request can be submitted from within the import flow for one that isn't supported yet.
